Chapter 8

Angelica looked at Moon Walking enquiringly. Moon Walking looked back at her and smiled. “Is there anything wrong?” she asked.

“Well, I was just wondering about something,” answered Angelica.

“What’s that?” asked Moon Walking, patiently.

“When I was at the gallery, after I talked to Laughing Elk’s daughter. I was thinking about needing to talk to you. I thought I heard you answer me in my head.” Angelica paused and looked at Moon Walking expectantly.

Moon Walking smiled at Angelica. “Of course you heard me, just as I heard you when you called to me. I have always had this ability and it seems you have it also. You could hear other people with practice. It is a very convenient thing to have.” Moon Walking smiled at Angelica and gently patted her hand.

“I don’t know if I want to be listening to other people’s thoughts, except maybe for Alex. It might be nice to be able to communicate with him that way.” Angelica shook her head thoughtfully.

Moon Walking laughed softly. “Yes,” she agreed. “Being able to hear a lover’s voice is very nice.”

Angelica looked startled. “We aren’t lovers,” she protested.

Moon Walking patted her hand again and smiled. “You will be,” she assured Angelica. She walked towards the door. When Angelica got over her astonishment at Moon Walking’s last statement, she hurried to see her out and to say good bye.

Angelica called Alex as soon as Moon Walking was gone. She had promised to call him when she left work, but she had wanted to talk to Moon Walking first.

“Hello,” answered Alex.

“Hello,” said Angelica.

“ Have you just finished work?” asked Alex.

“No, I needed to talk with Moon Walking. She was waiting for me when I arrived home.” Angelica paused for a moment, waiting for Alex to speak.

“Are you still ok to go out? You aren’t too tired?” Alex paused. He was waiting for Angelica’s answer.

“I’m not tired at all. I can’t wait to see you.” Angelica assured Alex.

Alex gave a sigh of relief. “I missed you. It seems like forever since I held you in my arms. I’ll be over in about twenty minutes. I have to check one more patient, and then I’ll be there.”

Angelica smiled. “I’ll be waiting.” She hung up the phone and hurried to change out of her work clothes.

When Alex arrived, Angelica hurried to open the door for him. She nestled into his arms and he pulled her close and kissed her. She deepened the kiss and kissed him back. Angelica finally pulled back and took a deep breath. Alex held her closely and tried to get his breath under control, also. He leaned back slightly and looked her over,

“You look very beautiful,” he whispered. He pulled her close again. “Do you have any idea what kind of food you would like to have tonight?”

“I don’t care,” answered Angelica. “I just want to share it with you.”

“There is a café on the reservation. It serves authentic Indian cuisine.” Alex smiled down at her face and leaned in for another brief, kiss.
